Gree CNC in China's Mother-Machine Era: The Dual-Five-Axis Gantry & Supply-Chain Proof
A buyer's view of Gree Intelligent Equipment's machine-tool push · 2026-08-15 · For overseas CNC buyers and distribution partners. ← Back to GREE CNC · China CNC Daily Insights →
China's 15th Five-Year Plan (十五五) has put "industrial mother machines" — CNC machine tools — at the center of national strategy. Gree Intelligent Equipment is one of the few consumer-branded players executing that strategy with hard, verifiable proof points rather than slogans.
A reference-class gantry: Gree's dual-five-axis high-speed gantry machining center won a Geneva International Invention Exhibition gold medal and is built specifically for NEV (new-energy-vehicle) integrated die-casting parts — with Chinese industry reporting placing it inside automotive-grade die-casting supply chains.
Cost via in-house parts: Gree's self-developed precision direct-drive AC swing head and high-thrust linear motor reach world-class precision at roughly half the cost of imported equivalents, even as the group's CNC machine-tool external-supply ratio reached ~75%.
Honest claims: we standardize the gantry's efficiency gain to a re-test-defensible +25% for international buyers (some domestic materials cite up to +80%, which we do not use export-facing); and we do not claim a fully in-house CNC "brain" — Gree's controller autonomy is partial, built on domestic CNC partners.
A dual-beam five-axis gantry machining center — the class of machine at the center of China's industrial-mother-machine push, and Gree's flagship for NEV integrated die-casting.
1 · The mother-machine era, in one paragraph
For two decades China's high-end machine tools were dominated by Germany, Japan and Switzerland. The 15th Five-Year Plan now treats CNC machine tools as strategic infrastructure: localization of five-axis machine tools climbed from ~18% (2020) to ~59.5% (2025), and the CNC machine-tool market is projected at ~RMB 1,224B (2025) → ~1,304B (2026E). The full policy analysis is in our companion report, China's 15th Five-Year Plan Puts Machine Tools at the Center of National Strategy. This report narrows the lens to one question overseas buyers actually care about: what can Gree CNC concretely show for it?
2 · Gree's proof points
Three things separate Gree from the average "we support localization" press release:

Gold medal, international invention exhibition
Automotive-grade
Die-casting supply-chain qualification, per Chinese industry reports
~75%
CNC machine-tool external-supply ratio
−50%
Cost vs imported swing head / linear motor
3 · The dual-five-axis gantry
Gree's flagship is a dual-five-axis high-speed gantry machining center purpose-built for the NEV integrated die-casting wave (battery trays, front underbody structures). Its headline characteristics, as reported across multiple Chinese industry and expo coverages:
Solves six-face machining of die-cast front cabins / battery trays
Rapid traverse
120 m/min
High throughput on large thin-wall parts
Recognition
Geneva International Invention Exhibition gold medal
Independent international validation, not self-awarded
Market position
Top-3 shipment volume in its NEV die-casting segment (per Chinese coverage)
Already at scale, not a prototype
Supply chain
Reported qualification into automotive-grade die-casting supply chains
A strong third-party trust signal
Specifications aggregated from 2026 Wuhan Auto Manufacturing Expo coverage and CIMT2025 reporting. Credibility: Medium-High (multiple consistent Chinese-language sources) for the machine's structure and awards; Medium for the supply-chain claim (vendor/market-reported, not independently audited).
4 · Self-developed motion components (−50% cost)
Gree's most defensible edge is not the whole machine but the core motion components it builds itself:
Precision direct-drive AC swing head (精密直驱 AC 摆头): developed in-house, reported at world-class precision.
High-thrust linear motor (大推力直线电机): developed in-house, reported at world-class precision.
Cost: Chinese industry coverage states these self-developed parts reach imported-equivalent precision at roughly half the cost of buying from foreign suppliers.
Combined with the group's CNC machine-tool external-supply ratio reaching ~75% (i.e. most output goes to outside customers, not captive use), the picture is a machine builder with real component depth — exactly what the 15th Five-Year Plan rewards and what overseas buyers should vet first.
Why this matters for you. A supplier that controls its swing head and linear motor controls its own cost curve and spare-part lead time. That is the difference between a showroom spec and a machine you can keep running for a decade.
5 · The controller question (kept honest)
One claim we deliberately do not make: that Gree runs a fully proprietary CNC "brain." The sector's most common misclaim is overstating controller autonomy. The honest position:
Partner-led: the control system leverages domestic CNC leaders. Gree's ecosystem tie to Huazhong CNC (华中数控) is documented — Huazhong's team visited Zhuhai Gree Intelligent in May 2026 for system training and product briefings, and Huazhong's "HuaZhong 10-type" AI-integrated CNC system (the so-called "brain-swap revolution") is being rolled out across Chinese machine builders.
Net: Gree's controller autonomy is Partial, not full. We rate the fully-in-house "GNC" claim as Not asserted.
6 · The +25% efficiency red line
Red line for export-facing material. Some domestic Chinese-language marketing cites the dual-five-axis gantry's efficiency improvement at up to +80%. For international buyers we standardize to a conservative, re-test-defensible +25%.
Rationale: if an overseas customer re-tests against an +80% claim and sees less, the deal and the brand take the hit. +25% is the number to use on greecnc.com and in export quotes; do not publish the +80% figure internationally. This is a deliberate, standing convention for Gree CNC overseas communication.
Dual-five-axis gantry positioned as a NEV integrated-die-casting specialist, with reported automotive-grade supply-chain qualification.
External-supply ratio of CNC machine tools reportedly at ~75% — a signal the machines sell on merit, not just internal transfer.
Self-developed AC swing head and linear motor cited at ~50% lower cost vs imported equivalents.
Documented ecosystem tie to Huazhong CNC (May 2026 training visit) — the "brain-swap" AI-CNC wave is reaching Gree's lines.

9 · Outlook & implications
For the embodied-AI / humanoid-robot boom: scaling precision reducers, ball screws, harmonic drives and structural parts drives rigid demand for high-end five-axis machining centers and precision grinders. Gree's dual-five-axis gantry is positioned precisely for robot core-part machining — a demand pull, not just a policy push.
For overseas buyers: the substitution tailwind is real and shortening lead times on Chinese mid/high-tier machines. But verify accuracy retention with a real test-cut, and pin down the brand and spare-lead-time of scales, ball screws and bearings — the components where import dependence still lives.
For distribution partners: Gree's third-party supply-chain proof (automotive-grade die-casting programs, 75% external supply) is the strongest material you have for credibility with skeptical European and ASEAN buyers. Lead with it; keep the +25% efficiency claim and the honest "partner-led controller" framing.
What makes Gree's dual-five-axis gantry credible for overseas buyers?
It won a Geneva International Invention Exhibition gold medal, it is built specifically for NEV integrated die-casting parts, and Chinese industry reporting places it inside automotive-grade die-casting supply chains. Treat any customer-reference claim as Medium-credibility and verify with a test-cut before procurement.
Is Gree's CNC controller fully in-house?
Partly. Gree develops key motion components in-house — the precision direct-drive AC swing head and high-thrust linear motor — at world-class precision and roughly half the cost of imported equivalents. The control "brain" leverages domestic CNC partners (e.g. Huazhong CNC) rather than a fully proprietary Gree controller. We do not claim a fully in-house "GNC" system.
Why does the efficiency claim say +25% when some Chinese sources say +80%?
Some domestic Chinese-language marketing cites up to +80% efficiency improvement for the dual-five-axis gantry. For international buyers we standardize to a conservative, re-test-defensible +25% to avoid overseas acceptance risk if a customer re-tests against the higher figure. Use +25% in export-facing material.
How does the humanoid-robot boom affect Gree CNC demand?
The embodied-AI / humanoid-robot supply chain needs precision reducers, ball screws, harmonic drives and structural parts at scale — all of which drive rigid demand for high-end five-axis machining centers and precision grinders. That is exactly the window Gree's dual-five-axis gantry is positioned for.
